45,7 % der Weltbevölkerung leben in Freiheit. Sie ist nicht statisch und muss ständig verteidigt und gepflegt werden. Die Friedliche Revolution 1989 hat gezeigt, was der Einsatz für Freiheit und Demokratie bewirken kann. Jetzt gilt es uns an das Privileg dieser Freiheit zu erinnern und andere bei ihrem Einsatz für ein demokratisches Miteinander zu unterstützen, denn Freiheit ist ein universelles Recht, das allen Menschen gleichermaßen zusteht. In Leipzig erinnert ein aus der umliegenden Landschaft wachsendes kreisförmiges Denkmal an die Dynamik von Vergangenheit und Gegenwart und die Fragilität der Freiheit. In den Kreisring, wie ein Kern eingefasst, ist das Wort „frei“, ein aufblitzender Schatz- teils sichtbar, teils verdeckt. Ein Hinweis auf die noch unerfüllten Potenziale globaler Freiheit, die es freizulegen gilt. Bei Dämmerung erleuchtet das Denkmal und bietet einen Ort der individuellen und kollektiven Besinnung auf vergangene Errungenschaften und aktuelle Herausforderungen. |

45.7% of the world's population lives in freedom. Freedom is not static and must be constantly defended and nurtured. The Peaceful Revolution of 1989 showed what commitment to freedom and democracy can achieve. Now it is important to remember the privilege of this freedom and to support others in their commitment to democratic coexistence, because freedom is a universal right that belongs equally to all people. In Leipzig, a circular monument rising from the surrounding landscape commemorates the dynamism of the past and present and the fragility of freedom. Enclosed in the circle like a core is the word “free,” a flashing treasure, partly visible, partly hidden. A reference to the still unfulfilled potential of global freedom that needs to be uncovered. At dusk, the monument lights up and offers a place for individual and collective reflection on past achievements and current challenges.
